About Bersa

Bersa is the most renowned Argentine firearms manufacturer. The company was established in 1958 and its current headquarters are in Ramos Mejía in Argentina. The brand’s founders were Italian immigrants Benso Bonadimani, Ercole Montini and Savino Caselli. In 1960, the first letters of the founders’ names were combined, resulting in a new name - Bersa. The first handgun from Bersa’s production was called “Luan” and it was named after the pistol’s designers, Luce and Antonovich. Unfortunately, the pistol did not enjoy  much popularity, which is why Bersa ceased its production shortly after the weapon’s introduction. However, in the recent years, this model has become one of the rarest and most valuable collectibles among true firearms aficionados.

Bersa gained the attention it deserved in 1989, when the company introduced their first full-sized combat pistol, the Bersa Model 90. This famous model was one of the first Bersa’s guns chambered in the popular 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge. The company started to enjoy worldwide popularity in 1994, when the Bersa Thunder, the company’s new flagship, was introduced. In reality, the Thunder series includes two totally different designs in mechanics and appearances. The first group includes models chambered in up (and including) the .380 ACP caliber. All of these pistols are compact in size and they operate on a blowback system and they instantly remind everyone of the Walther PPK. The second group features handguns chambered in the 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP calibers and they all are based on a locked breech and short-recoil modified Browning design. This line of Thunder pistols bears similarity to the famous Walther P88.

The full-size Thunder combat pistol chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge is the standard sidearm of the Argentina Armed Forces, the Argentina Federal Police, and Buenos Aires Provincial Police. On top of that, many other law enforcement agencies across the world rely on Bersa Thunder pistols. Firearms produced by the Argentine manufacturer are known especially for their reliability, quality and lifetime warranty, which comes with all of Bersa’s products. Such an approach only demonstrates trust and commitment of the company to the quality of its weapons.
